It’s utterly utopian. They want to live in a world where nothing, ever, makes them feel bad.

Your founders wrote about a right to the pursuit of happiness. They didn’t promise a right to happiness, because that’s impossible.

These people want a right to happiness.

Personally I hate this BS. Self delusion, reparations, have not made one group better than another. They just want me to not interact, support financially and emotionally. If you only want good things then go off and find them. Just not on my dime. I have read this BS over and over for the past two year and it is destroying you and this country. I know as do many others, what it is like to live on that fine line of make rent, food, electricity and not. I am not black or a minority, just a white female that did not start out with great parents and the privileges that you speak of. Some of us just work, get it wrong, get laid off, have bad boyfriends, few female friend because they are working not so great jobs. It is hard, sometimes really hard. but we work on it until we get it right, for us. We are also hyper aware that not everyone gets the brass ring, the apple or a chance on the merry go round. It is what is called life, deal with it.

The infantilizing of our culture is one of the worst things these self-involved, narcissistic haters ensconced on their pinnacles of grandiosity inflict upon our young.

Thank you for calling them out using your excellent talent for getting to the crux of the problem.

This kind of masturbation also does a great job of crying wolf about trauma, which does no favors for people who experience actual trauma, racially motivated or otherwise.

Having your ideas attacked is something I would expect a professor to cherish if he had any credibility at all.

I totally agree with your finding. This aligns with a YouTube rant of a young man’s hissy fit, in the break room of the StarBucks he works at. He was crying because of stressful working is when it’s “busy”. Too many people fantasize that life should be effortless and totally stress free.

This makes me think of micro aggressions and how privileged or delicate one must be to have the time and energy to acknowledge them. Also two songs come up. The Kinks Destroyer and REM Everybody hurts. And yes, lots of these things do hurt, rile us up and get us stuck in a stupid loop of re-enacting the event so maybe good for him that he has a way to deal with his “trauma” but no, he does not have some unique, special problem that the rest of us don’t also have and growing up is also part of the cure.

"She is one of the cofounders of Race2Dinner, the non-sexual BDSM submission exercise where white women pay her for the privilege of serving her dinner while she berates them about their racism."

*LMFAO*

I had never heard of the "non sexual BDSM" dinner parties of Saira Rao. That is a hilarious description.

This bothers me greatly because it looks like Darius Green is familiar enough with CBT and DBT principals, but is using it in a twisted way to not actually "do the work".

Just exactly, and spot on.

I call this kind of performance, "My Pretty Trauma (heart emoji)".

I think you're absolutely right. James Lindsay said something very similar at the beginning of his most recent "Groomer Schools" lecture on New Discourse while summarizing his previous lecture. He explains why everything, literally everything can be explained through this critical lense. He uses the James Webb space telescope as an example– the telescope having taken the scrutiny of race activist journalists. James says that is because the telescope points at everything except them. Anything that doesn't point directly to the inequities of their own individual sufferings is simply missing the point, and is, therefore, racist, sexist, homophobic, and every other phobic under the sun. It's like the new geocentric model.

Saira Rao is one of a small (but growing) group of people who espouse ideas that are so repugnant as to be incomprehensible in the sense that they *seem* to be incognizant of their hypocrisy. I'd forgotten about her since ditching twitter more than a year ago. I actually tried to watch the first video you cited, but couldn't get past a few minutes; which is far more than she deserves. I think that for many people who proffer these (patently absurd) ideas it's less about a self-awareness that they deserve their "safe spaces," and more that 1) they're simply damaged (and in many cases very deeply so, and deserve empathy, despite their behavior) and exhibit that damage through projection, and/or 2) they are entirely aware of their position, and cynically use it to attempt to profit (i.e. grift). Rao (And Darius he/him Green) are firmly in the latter group IMO.

It boils down to responsibility shifting. They don't want to take the personal responsibility to mentally and emotionally deal with life being "unfair" so they are shifting the responsibility for their negative responses onto other people (who never should have been held responsible for random people's thoughts and emotions).

There is nothing new under the sun. Only ways to think about the same things that everybody has always had to deal with as part of human existence. The need to feel special is certainly not new. and the insatiable craving of special status can be and is pursued in various ways, ranging from needing to be perceived as the smartest to being particularly victimized. "Nobody knows suffering like I do." If not for being special, one might be left with just dealing with things like everyone else. What a drag!
