I may have to have my wife and our second daughter look into this. My wife is not as anxious as it seems you are, but she’s definitely anxious. And daughter #2 does have ADHD. Thank you for calling this to my attention!

They recommended earphones (in my case, my hearing aids serve the same purpose) and I’m not sure why, but that does seem to be crucial. I tried it just out of my computer speakers a few times, and it was noticeably less effective (though still somewhat helpful).

Congrats! Let me know how it works for your girls!

If you need earphones it might be binaural beats involved. I used to make those in meditation videos.

Edit: Their website says "Brain.fm is not binaural beats. There are some similarities, but it’s important to remember that binaural beats were first discovered in 1839, popularized in the 1970’s and haven’t really changed since. In a way, you could think of brain.fm as binaural beats 2.0. We took the concept behind binaural beats and applied an updated understanding of neuroscience and auditory processing to create a more effective and powerful solution.

Some core differences: Binaural beats primarily impacts the lower brain which is not where thinking or creativity occurs. Brain.fm impacts the prefrontal cortex which is where all your thinking and creativity comes from Binaural beats requires both ears to be free of hearing damage and high quality headphones to be on.

Brain.fm works with one or two ears, does not require headphones, and is not dependent on your ability to hear certain frequencies. Most importantly, brain.fm uses many methods to make our music work, unlike binaural beats which is just one technique!"

I'm not sure if that's *part* of it but there's definitely more than just that going on. (I've tried those before). Possibly it's just structural and those help eliminate other auditory distractions. I'm not the person to ask since I wouldn't be hearing much of anything without my hearing aids which double as earphones in this case. If you try it, I'll be curious what you think.

Do you use Apple hearing aids? I need some but am an Android customer...

My hearing aids are professional ones that I got from an audiologist, professionally programmed to my specific audiogram.

I am so glad you found this, Holly. I found what for me was a safe and legal way to do a psilocybin journey and it has been of great benefit in dealing with my own history of PTSD, but like you I would offer my experience with caveats. It still has been important for me, and your experience is valid in the way it has benefitted you, I believe.

Miracles are a thing. The world is full of wonder if you know where to look. It’s wonderful you found you finally found a cure for your Demon. Well, it was like something possessing part of your brain that you didn’t want to be there. Demon. So glad you cast it off.

And on a separate note Apple has a new product called AirPods 2 pro which should revolutionize the OTC Hearing Aid market. You may have an evaluation example headed your way.

BT HA have been a godsend to me. I can afford them but many can’t. I hope this can be their miracle.

I’m so happy for you. This sounds awesome! My beloved has HORRIBLE anxiety. Think I’m gonna have him check this out. I’m also interested in the hearing aids for myself. Facilitating groups when you can’t hear well is kinda challenging. Thanks for sharing your miracle. 🌻

It’s astonishing. I actually had a nightmare that it quit working, which is typical for me with things that I count on and trust. I know someone is a real friend when they start betraying me in dreams, LOL. That kind of thing. In a week, it’s moved to that level of importance for me: my nervous system trusts it.

I have suspected that I may have ADD (my brother was diagnosed with it) and I have the anxiety. At work, when alone, I can get bored and start wanting to pull out my phone and read Substack. I don't want to waste time at work, but maybe it is as you say, the lack of humans. I may have to check this out.

I might have to try this. I have had a number of students with ADD or ADHD.

Man, I'd give anything to lose track of time while I exercise--do you have a setting you like while pedaling?

Brain.fm has several choices available — focus, relax, sleep, meditate, etc. I like “Motivation” for exercise.

I immediately signed up for the free month and it worked immediately. I have a combination of PTSD and ADHD and because I have meditated for years I'm gotten more aware of just this kind of inner anxiety, compulsive avoidance of the present moment, monkey mind etc and I felt an immediate shift to being OK with myself in the moment. Miracle? YUP! I write this on day 2 of listening on Sennheiser Momentum 4 Bluetooth headphones. Right now experimenting without my hearing aids. I have two close relatives who have similar backgrounds and have similar difficulties so I am going to recommend to them that they sign up for the free month.
